From infancy through teen years, a pediatrician is important in keeping your child healthy.
Why Your Child Needs a Pediatrician
Your child’s healthcare needs differ from those of adults. Pediatricians provide specialized care tailored to children’s mental and physical needs. Meet Sarah Gross, MD
I became a doctor because I’ve always loved people and science—and I wanted to give back.
As a pediatrician with University Medicine Associates at University Health, I see my role as more than just treating illness. My job is to help people be their healthiest, so they can have the freedom to live their lives how they choose. I work closely with children and their families, helping them navigate everything from everyday colds to long-term conditions.
I love building relationships and working with people. Pediatrics is always interesting, always exciting—and I feel honored to be part of so many families’ lives.
Prevention is powerful. I enjoy guiding families through healthy choices, whether we’re talking about nutrition, movement, mental wellness, or how to manage chronic illnesses like asthma. I’m here to walk alongside families during acute illness, too—offering support, answers, and a sense of calm during stressful moments.
I believe that lifelong health starts in childhood.
My clinical interests include:
I live in San Antonio with my husband and our two young daughters. We love spending time in nature, hiking, reading, and trying new foods (and occasionally cooking them too!). When I have time to myself, I enjoy writing poetry and planning our next travel adventure.
Meet Suzanne Rienstra, MD
I always knew that I wanted to work with children. My grandmother was a nurse, and my desire to help others and work with children came together as a pediatrician.
As a pediatrician, I believe that each child is deserving of personalized, compassionate and evidence-based care. My primary goal is to partner with families to ensure that every child grows up happy, healthy and supported.
I view the family as an integral part of the child's health care team, and I strive to empower parents and guardians with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed decisions. I am committed to building trustful relationships with both children and their caregivers by listening actively to concerns and by providing clear communication in a supportive and understanding environment.
The thing I love most is that I have the opportunity to be a part of a child's life from infancy to adolescence. I enjoy each stage of growth and development. I take pride in building trusting relationships with families that allows me to be a resource to them. As a result, I am rewarded by being a small part of each child's journey.
My clinical interests include:
Above all, I value kindness, respect and empathy in all my interactions.
